Changelog

All notable changes to SENTRY Counterfeit IC Detector will be documented in this file.

The format is based on Keep a Changelog, and this project adheres to Semantic Versioning.

[2.16.0] – 2023-01-16

Added

  • Added sales part numbers to fixture descriptions and labels.
  • Added new packages and fixtures.
  • Added multilingual installation support for SENTRY. The default language follows the system language when a translation is available and can be overridden in the .dat file.
  • Added detection of the current user’s VirtualStore data at startup. Detected data is automatically backed up to the local program data folder with appropriate naming before the VirtualStore location is deleted, and the user is notified.
  • Added a prompt to choose whether to use detected VirtualStore data, with an additional backup before applying that choice.

Changed

  • Moved the reference coordinates for graphical pins and outlines to 0,0, primarily for BGA packages.
  • Standardised descriptions for packages and package fixtures.
  • Moved SENTRY USB driver installation to the application installation directory.
  • Updated the user manual’s copyright dates, PC hardware requirements, and banner image.
  • Updated the startup splash screen styling.
  • Updated UI themes and colours to replace hard-to-read yellow text.
  • Updated software copyright dates to 2023.
  • Replaced registry-based settings with config.dat in the installation directory so administrator privileges are no longer required to run the software.
  • Updated the report template to the newer SYSTEM 8 styling.
  • Upgraded from .NET Framework 2.0 to 4.6. Supported Windows versions are now Windows 7 SP1 through Windows 11.
  • Increased report signature image resolution and improved colour readability.
  • Renamed the report’s Print action to Open in Web. Reports open in the default HTML viewer, such as Chrome.
  • Updated embedded web browsers to support full reporting functionality and prevent PDF-related crashes. This functionality requires Windows 10 and Edge.
  • Updated marketing images on the welcome screen.
  • Updated installation and program data folder permissions during installation to prevent future VirtualStore issues.
  • Changed database upgrades to run automatically after installing new software, without an update warning prompt.
  • Set the maximum VI image size to 600 x 600 to help prevent memory exceptions.
  • Set the default VI image size to 300 x 300 to match the report template and prevent image stretching.

Removed

  • Removed the bundled 7za.exe; SENTRY now performs ZIP backup operations internally.

Fixed

  • Corrected the NSIS installation script so drivers install correctly, particularly on Windows 11.
  • Replaced crashes when adding oversized report images with a warning that the supplied image could not be used.
  • Corrected spelling mistakes throughout the software.
  • Fixed slowdowns when repeatedly scanning parts without switching tabs.
  • Fixed installer error handling when a prerequisite version is already installed.
  • Corrected the Log Out button styling to match other buttons.
  • Corrected page breaks in the SENTRY manual.
  • Fixed connection errors from the Check for Updates and Technical Support buttons.
  • Fixed the dropdown arrow when creating new packages.
  • Fixed Save As discarding a newly entered package fixture description until it was edited and saved again.
  • Fixed software becoming unresponsive when an unsupported fixture channel number, such as -1 or A, was entered and the description control was clicked.
  • Fixed software becoming unresponsive when an unsupported pin name containing special characters was entered and the description control was clicked.
  • Fixed aliased or dotted VI signature images in generated reports.
